Make lamentation, all you who drink wine, because the wine is removed from your mouth. 1:6 A people have raised up (against) my land, (which are) powerful and can not be numbered. Their teeth are like teeth of lion, and their claws are like the claws of lioness✡. 1:7 He has turned my grapevine to devastation and my fig tree into a stump; he (has) demolished it and he (has) thrown it (away); their branches have become white. 1:8 Make lamentation like a girded young person✡ with sackcloth because of the husband of her youth. 1:9 The meal-offering and the libation were removed from the house of MarYah; the kings and the priests who serve MarYah have been mourning. 1:10 The field has been looted and the land has made lamentation✡ because the grain was stolen✡; the wine has become dry and depleted✡ are the olive trees. 1:11 Be confused, oh you tillers of the ground, and make lamentation, oh you vineyard keepers, because of the wheat and because of the barley, for the harvest of the field has (now) become expired. 1:12 Dried is the grapevine, and the fig tree is neglected; as well as the pomegranate, the palms, the apple trees and all the trees of the field have become dried, because the rejoicing of the sons of men is no longer. 1:13 Oh you priests, wrap yourselves with sackcloth and lament; make lamentation, oh you servants of the altar. Go, spend the night wrapped with sackcloth, servants of my Alaha, because the meal-offering and the libation in the house of your Alaha have been held back. 1:14 Sanctify a fast (and) convene to assemble; congregate the elders and the all the inhabitants of the land in the house of MarYah your Alaha. Call to MarYah your Alaha, saying: 1:15 Oh, oh for that day! For near is the day of MarYah, and (it) shall come (as a) destruction from Alaha. 1:16 And, look! Removed from before our own eyes is the food of the house of our Alaha; rejoicing and the joyous dance is no longer. 1:17 The heifers are neglected (standing) next to their mangers, and the barns have been destroyed; the oil-presses✡ has been utterly destroyed and the harvest has become dry. 1:18✡ Why do the cattle bellow and the herds of oxen roar? Why is there no grass for them? The flocks of ewes have also become destroyed. 1:19 To you, oh MarYah, I will cry out; because the fire has consumed the fields of the shepherds in the wilderness✡, and the flame has consumed all the trees of the field; 1:20 even the (wild) beasts of the field roar before you, because the streams of water have become dry, and the fire has consumed the fields of the shepherds in the wilderness. Chapter 2 2:1 Sound the trumpet in Zion! Make it known in my holy mountain! Tremble, all you inhabitants of the earth, because the day of MarYah comes! [or this comes on the day of MarYah] 2:2 Near is the day of shadows and darkness, a day of clouds and intense darkness. It will be like the sunrise that is spreading on the mountains. (This will come upon a) large village (which is) powerful; never before has there been anything like it, or (never) will there be another after it for years, from generation to generation. 2:3 Fire consumes before them and behind them the flame burns. Earth is like the Garden of Eden before them and behind them is an parched desert, and there are those who will not escape (from among) them. 2:4 Their appearance is like the appearance of horses, and like horsemen they run; 2:5 like the roar of the chariots of battle that rumble on the mountain tops, as the crackle of the flame of fire devouring the leaves [or stubble], and strong as a people prepared for war. 2:6 The people will stand in front of them, and all the faces are grievously distressed [or, distressed with dilemma]. 2:7 (They) shall (run) as brave men of war mounting by the walls; each will continue on his path without detracting from the path [or rank]. 2:8 None will charge ahead of his companion, but each will continue on his (own) path, (and) the weight of the amour will not affect them [others, even if he falls he will not be harmed]. 2:9 They will go (to and) up against the cities; they will be on the walls, going up on the houses and will go through the windows as thieves. 2:10 The earth trembles before them, and the skies shake, and the sun and the moon are darkened and the shining of the stars is withdrawn. 2:11 The voice of MarYah went before his army, because his army is great, and powerful is his word, for very great and terrible is the day of MarYah; who can bear it? 2:12 And now, declares MarYah, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping and with mourning. 2:13 Rend your hearts and not your garments, and return to MarYah your Alaha, for He is merciful and compassionate, and patient and his abundant kindness turns back evil. 2:14 Who (can) know if he will turn again and have mercy on us, leaving us blessing and in this place, even offering meal and libation to MarYah your Alaha. 2:15 Sound the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast (for) the people, and convene an assembly. 2:16 Congregate the people, sanctify them in the congregation, convene the elderly, and bring together young people and infants. Let the bridegroom leave his room, and the bride her bridal chamber. 2:17. Let the priests, ministers of MarYah, cry out between the porch and the altar, and say: Forgive, O MarYah, your people. Do not surrender your inheritance to rebuke and the Gentiles, so that the Gentiles will not say: Where is your God? 2:18 Thus, MarYah, jealous for his land, will have compassion for his people. 2:19 Answering, MarYah told his people: Behold, I will send you grain, wine and oil to become content, never again making you an object of insult among the Gentiles. 2:20 When he comes from the north, (I will drive him) away from you; (I will) drive him to a barren and desolate land, with his face toward the sea, and his back toward the Mediterranean Sea. His stench will spread and will rise because of his praise for what he did. 2:21 Do not fear, O land; rejoice with the dance of joy [or dance with joy], for MarYah has lifted (himself up) to take action [or to do an act]. 2:22 Have no fear, beasts of the field [or of the camps], because grass has sprouted in the fields of the desert; the tree has produced its fruit and the vine and the fig tree have produced in abundance. 2:23 Dance with joy, oh sons of Zion, and rejoice in MarYah your Alaha! Because he has given them food of righteousness, and sends the early rain upon you and the late rain as before. 2:24 And the threshing floor shall be full with grain, and the presses flowing with wine and oil. 2:25 Then I shall return to you the years in which the flying locust consumed, the crawling locust, the weevil and the caterpillar, my great army that I sent to you. 2:26 Eat plenty and praise the name of MarYah your Alaha who makes miracles in the midst of you - and my people shall never again be put to shame. 2:27 Know that I am in the midst of Israel. I am MarYah your Alaha, and there is none besides me - and my people shall never again be put to shame. 2:28 After that, it will happen that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh - your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams and your young men shall see visions. 2:29 Even on the male servants and the female servants will I pour out my Spirit in those days. 2:30 I will create wonder in the heavens, and on Earth - blood, fire, and pillars of smoke. 2:31 The sun will turn to darkness and the moon to blood, before the great and terrible day of the coming of MarYah. 2:32 And then, anyone who calls upon the name of MarYah shall be protected, for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be a protected remnant, as MarYah said to the remnant, whom MarYah has called. Chapter 3 3:1 Behold! In those days and in that time, when I will bring back from the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, 3:2 and I will gather all nations and I will bring them to the valley of Jehoshaphat, and then will enter into justice with them in favor of my people and for Israel, my inheritance which is dispersed among the nations and because they divided my land 3:3 and have cast lots for my people and delivered boys as payment to prostitutes and sold girls for wine to drink. 3:4 You, Tire and Zidon, and all the regions of the Philistines, what do you have to do with me? Are you taking revenge against me? If you make retaliation against me, very soon and quickly, I will return revenge on your head; 3:5 because you took my gold and silver, and you took my precious utensils to your temples, 3:6 and the children of Judah and Jerusalem were sold to the Greeks to remove them from their border. 3:7 Behold! I will raise them up in the place where you sold them [or, in the place where they were sold], and I will return your revenge on your head. 3:8 I will deliver your sons and daughters into the hands of the children of Judah and they will sell them to the Sabeans, to a far-away people, because MarYah has spoken. 3:9 Proclaim this among the nations; prepare for the war, raise up the mighty men, let all the warriors come forward and go (up). 3:10 Beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. The weak will say, 'I am strong!' 3:11 Gather (yourselves) from every nation, come forward, because there MarYah will break their rule. 3:12 Awaken the nations and come to the valley of Jehoshaphat, because there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. 3:13 Put in the pruning hooks [or sickles], for the harvest is mature; come and tread down, for the winepresses are filled and the houses are overflowing, for wickedness has risen from them [or, their wickedness is great]. 3:14 Distress and tumult in the valley of decision, because near is the day of MarYah in the valley of decision. 3:15 The sun will be darkened and the moon and stars will retract their radiance. 3:16 MarYah roars from Zion and from Jerusalem he gives his voice; the heavens and the earth tremble, but MarYah is compassion on (account of) his people and will strengthen the children of Israel. 3:17 Then they will know that I am MarYah your Alaha who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain. And Jerusalem is holy, and foreigners will no longer dwell (in it). 3:18 It shall happen in that day that (from) the mountains wine [or sweet wine] and milk will flow from the hills, and water will run from all the streams of Judah. And a spring will come out from the House of MarYah and shall water the Valley of Shittim. 3:19 Egypt will become a waste and Edom a parched desert, for the violence done to children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land. 3:20 But Judah will be inhabited forever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation, 3:21 and I will take vengeance for their blood, and I will not have mercy. MarYah dwells in Zion! |
